Holy Week and Easter Sunday

Like in the Philippines, the sandy land here also have a 4-day holiday. But it's not all because of the Holy Week. Two of which is just our weekly 2 days off, one is of course the Easter Sunday and the other is for the celebration of Prophet Muhammad's birthday tomorrow.

Although this is a Muslim country they still pay due respect to Christian's important holidays such as Christmas day and Easter Sunday. Yet some sectors disagreed to consider Easter Sunday as a holiday for their Christian staff. It's really a good thing our company's not one of those!

Holy Week brings back so much things in my mind. As a kid, I was told of the things I shouldn't do as a tradition:
  • you shouldn't rejoice or be happy, just be plain, grieve and pray that He saved us from our sins...
  • you shouldn't fight with anyone...
  • you shouldn't eat anything with pork or any meat only fish and veggies... or fast...
  • you shouldn't take shower after 3pm
  • you shouldn't play video games or with your play mates...
  • you shouldn't run around otherwise if you got hurt the wound won't ever heal...
  • you shouldn't watch TV or movies unless it's about good deeds and holy things...
  • you shouldn't listen to radio or music unless it is a holy program or a gospel song...
There would be no TV programs and radio stations during the Holy Week especially during Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. Holy Friday commemorates the crucifixion and death of Jesus at the Calvary. During these tough moments of Jesus we should remember His sufferings that He did for our salvation.

Contrary to what have been told to me as a kid, I notice as I am growing up that there were people who chose to spend the Holy Week at the beach. That is what I can't understand before. I thought they are sinful coz they don't abide with what I knew was the right things to do during these Holy days. Well anyway I hope that people won't forget what Jesus did for us all. So during the holy days I hope we all pray to honor and thank Him for everything and continuously ask for forgiveness as well as try to change for the better.

God is really wonderful, and I don't see how anyone can make it without him. Thanks for the insightful post.
