After 2 days of rest i'm back to work again. My mates & I have planned on going to Global Village last Friday but since one of them got invited in a birthday party of her colleague, I decided to cancel it. Luckily (?) my boyfriend's car which we are to use to go to GV needs to be brought to a car mechanic shop for repair. So I end up staying the whole Friday in the house.
I notice that some drivers in Dubai are getting worse. They are choosy with passengers. They decide for the passenger as if you are riding the cab for free. They are very rude. My boy's car went crazy Thursday night actually. He forced the car to reach my office even when it's overheating and a weird sound it's having as he's driving real slow and stopping every 10 or 15 minutes trying to cool the car.
We decided to park the car somewhere where no fee has to be paid. We can't just leave it anywhere or we'll get a fine. We tried to get a cab but they're not stopping at us, either the cab has a passenger or he just don't feel like letting you in his car. At last one taxi came, my bf hailed that cab though it didn't stop at that instant, we saw it as he reverse back to us... but no he didn't stop in front of him instead the cab driver stopped on the white guy just 10 steps away from us. But then the guy got rejected as well, maybe he wanted to go somewhere where the driver thought they might get stuck on traffic. My bf is standing and waiting for a cab on the other side of the street just so we won't miss a cab. So when a taxi stops in front of me he also ran towards me coz we're just riding in one cab though not going on the same place but still the same area. The driver rejected him coz he wants only one passenger eventhough I am trying to explain him that we are together and he just needs to drop him on the bus station. He allowed us to get inside coz I grabbed my bf to just get in even without his permission. Anyway he didn't threw us out so I guess it's okay with him. On the way reaching my place I tried to ask the cab driver why he don't want to drop my bf on the bus station which is just 2 blocks away from where he is dropping me. He said he is expecting a visitor at home and needs to reach home immediately. I took notice of his constant stare at me on the mirror. I am sitting at the back, my bf in front. A big question pops in my head. Why the heck he still stopped at us and let us ride if he needs to reach home urgently? Or is he just making an excuse? Some drivers are just crazy.
Because of this incident, I recalled what happened almost a year ago, how I argued and shouted at the cab driver when he didn't stop the car when I told him to and just kept driving. I told him I will not pay him more and will just pay what I should pay on that instant I told him to stop. Somewhat a good driver he was, or maybe just got scared of me, I'm not sure. But he pressed stop his car metre and drive me near my place so I didn't have to cross the road. Good boy!
This morning my colleagues came having that 'bad day look.' They told me their experience with a cab driver who doesn't want to drop them. The driver stopped as my colleagues and another passenger hailed him to stop. He was trying to get the other passenger on the same spot and not them, the other one is a white guy. They told the guy they came first so he allowed the girls to get in. The cab driver locked his car not allowing them to get in, they insisted. He let them in but insisting they would pay an initial of 6dhs instead of 3dhs. My colleagues agreed on him providing he will drop them in the office and with the threat that they are calling the RTA (Road & Transport Authority) to ask if what he wants to do is legal or not. So the silly driver kept on nagging at them while he drove them to the office. He stops the cab somewhere and instructing them to get out but they didn't until he hit the road again and reach our office. They didn't pay the extra charges he is putting on with them because it is illegal to just hike the price like that. They reported the incident to the RTA. I don't know what action RTA would do but they should train their drivers not be picky and rude. After all, we are all paying for the services we want.
